Up2Us Sports Helps AmeriCorps Celebrate 1,000,000 Members

This fall, AmeriCorps honors the one million people who have taken the pledge to "get things done for America." As a proud member of the AmeriCorps community, Up2Us Sports commemorated this milestone by holding a celebratory event on Wednesday, October 5th at one of our long standing Coach Across America (CAA) host site organizations, Henry Street Settlement. Coach Across America alum and current Henry Street Settlement employee, Anthony Andino, hosted the event. The evening included our AmeriCorps members participating in games with youth at the Settlement, which used SBYD principles to allow for meaningful engagement. The games were followed by a dinner celebration and a short induction ceremony, where members are called to take the AmeriCorps Pledge and become official in their role.Since the inception of Up2Us Sports, AmeriCorps has been by our side, providing grants to support our CAA coaches nationally. Earlier this year, it was announced that Up2Us Sports received $1.8 million in AmeriCorps grants, one National and four state, from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to support hundreds more AmeriCorps members. The grants support AmeriCorps members nationally with added support in Illinois, Louisiana, California and Pennsylvania. Additionally, CNCS New York sponsors the AmeriCorps VISTA program at Up2Us Sports.
