Sports-Based Youth Development Program Quality

A primer on sports-based youth development (SBYD) program quality and the elements that contribute to achieving SBYD outcomes. Program design, evaluation, and coach support and training are all key tenants to building and sustaining SBYD programs that achieve their intended impacts. Participants will have the opportunity to assess their own organization against SBYD quality standards and workshop a portion of this assessment. Examples of best/promising practices in SBYD programs will be presented and participants will be given facilitated work time to collaborate, share ideas, and game-plan around one particular element of their program.

Trauma Sensitive Sports-Based Youth Development Program Design

Up2Us Sports presents a unique approach to designing trauma sensitive environments for youth development programs.  Our training is rooted in brain development and organizational design research and focuses on strategies that help programs provide a safe space for young people who have experienced trauma.  The training presents practical strategies for designing trauma-sensitive programming and for better-serving youth who have been exposed to trauma. Participants will leave with a better understanding of the impact of trauma on behavior and the ability to identify strategies that will work with their own program’s culture, program activities, staff and external stakeholders.
