A key component of Up2Us Sports’ training is the role of reflection in helping inspire growth, development, healing, and appreciation. As 2018 nears its end, the training team at Up2Us Sports would like to reflect on all this past year has brought us!

In 2018, these were some key numbers:

4 - The number of cities that have a full time Up2Us Sports Trainer in them: Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and Philadelphia

8 - The number of 4-day Coach Training Institutes we led for the AmeriCorps Members as part of the Up2Us Coach program

19 - The amount of cities that hosted a training across the United States and Canada

102 - The total number of trainings provided by Up2Us Sports

While we are extremely proud of all of these numbers, the most important one to us is 2,882. This is the number of coaches that attended our sessions and that we were able to meet, learn from, and support over the past twelve months. These individuals were coaches, program staff, volunteers, mentors, teachers, parents, community members, law enforcement officers and much more. We are so grateful for every single person who attended our trainings because it is when we look beyond the numbers and into each individual’s story that we see the true impact of our work.

In 2018, this impact looked like Up2Us Sports coaches creating sport and life skill outcomes for their players, fostering positive relationships between youth and adults, and building strong team cultures. It sounded like coaches saying, “Let’s try that again,” asking “How did you do that?” and giving meaningful positive praise! And it meant more people understanding the impact trauma has on our brains and bodies, and how, through sport, coaches can help support the process of healing.

So as we reflect on 2018 with pride, we look forward to 2019 with excitement! Our team is planning on creating more new content, with a specific focus on continuing the education for individuals who have received our certification or served in our program. We are also looking forward to increasing our presence in more cities across the country.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year a success and we hope to see you at a training soon! If you have any questions or for more information about how to bring Up2Us Training to your community, please contact Andres “Dre” De La Peza.
