Up2Us Training Prepares Coaches in Myanmar Through Partnership with Women Win

The Up2Us Sports Training Team continued their international training opportunities through a collaboration with Women Win.

Women Win is a global multi-dimensional women’s fund guided by the vision of a future where every girl and woman exercises their rights. They achieve their vision through two main areas of work: Girls’ rights through sport and play, and women’s economic resilience.

Across a 4 week training series that finished in mid-December, around 30 coaches from Myanmar were trained in Vital Connections, Building Powerful Team Culture, Trauma and the Brain 101, and Trauma Sensitive Coaching Techniques.

Women Win leads an International Sports Programming Initiative which facilitates person-to-person exchange programs between coaches from the U.S. and abroad, specifically focused on the theme “Sport for Social Change.” The coaches from Myanmar are part of this program, but faced challenges to travelling abroad due to the ongoing conflict within their country. They sought our help to provide quality virtual training for the coaches, especially training that gave the coaches practical skills, which they identified as a priority.

This workshop helped me think about my role as a coach that it goes beyond just coaching a sport and involves supporting the players. I learned that the focus is not only on practicing sport skills but on creating a safe space for the players to feel comfortable and to be able to express their thinkings.
