On Thursday, February 18th, Up2Us Sports celebrated the 35th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day with a virtual conversation on sports' important role in keeping girls physically and mentally healthy.
A Conversation on Girls
Girls and women have always had to fight for the space they take up and the space they hold. This holds especially true for girls and women in sports. It wasn’t until 1972 that girls were given the right to equal access to sports with the passing of Title IX. Since then, we’ve seen female athletes own their power, strength, skill and abilities to rise to the top, even with endless barriers set in their way.

The Road Ahead
AmeriCorps VISTA members come from all walks of life. Some are newly college graduates looking to gain some work experience. Others are matured professionals looking to switch careers. Up2Us Sports Hosts Virtual MLK Day of Service Event
On Monday, January 18th, Up2Us Sports hosted a virtual event for MLK Day of Service. Nearly ten years after Martin Luther King Jr. Day signed into law as a federal holiday, it was officially established as a national day of service by Congress in 1994. It is observed as “a day on, not a day off” and is the only federal holiday nationally recognized as a day of service. This day of service is led by AmeriCorps, who also funds our Up2Us Sports Coach Program.
Amplify Change This National Mentoring Month
Imagine a world where young people feel empowered, inspired, encouraged, and understood; where they believe in their abilities to thrive no matter the circumstance. That world is a reality for many young people throughout the nation and is made possible through mentoring. Each January, MENTOR hosts National Mentoring Month as a chance for communities to recognize the various ways in which mentoring can positively impact lives.
