She Changes the Game® Coach Development Program Launches in Philadelphia

Up2Us Sports kicked off their new She Changes the Game® Coach Development Program on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023 at Philadelphia City Rowing’s training facility. National Trainers Samantha Griffin and Alannah Scardino led the free coach training for high school girls in Philadelphia.

The participants, who are in 11th and 12th grades, are athletes at Up2Us Sports Philadelphia-based host sites who have the potential to be extraordinary leaders in sport and beyond. This cohort of young girls will be supported in their ongoing coach training so they can feel empowered to step into coaching positions after graduating high school, thus increasing the number of women in crucial coach and role-model positions across Philadelphia.

The goal of this program is to spark high school girls’ interest in coaching through an introductory coach training. In the months following, Up2Us Sports will continue to support the program participants in their coach development with more training opportunities, networking with current Up2Us Sports coaches, and various empowerment activities and opportunities.

This program has been made possible by support from the Philadelphia Foundation.

I learned that coaching is more than just knowing or teaching a sport. It is also supporting and believing in your players.
